Sicily is by far the largest Italian wine-growing region.
The vineyards are located up to 900 meters above sea level. The climate is characterized by hot, dry summers and little rainfall. Due to the slopes with intense sunlight and the large temperature fluctuation between day and night, the conditions for viticulture are very good. From Sicily, viticulture was introduced throughout Europe by the Greeks. Nevertheless, the winegrowers recognized only late the chances of a cultivation of quality wines and the potential, which is behind it.
